PAVEMENT CONSULTANTS INC. Pavement Consultants Inc. (PCI), a professional civil engineering company, was established in 1983. The firm was founded to provide specialized expertise in pavement evaluation and management. PCI has become recognized throughout the world for the quality of the technical services its staff provides. PCI has offices in Seattle, Washington and Phoenix, Arizona. Our staff members have been providing pavement management and evaluation services to airports since the early 1980s - Jo Lary and Jay Sharma completed a pavement management study at Denver Stapleton in 1982. This study was the first of its kind in the U.S. and paved the way for us to become leaders in the airport pavement management field. We have developed pavement management programs for many airports and airport systems to make sure they comply with FAA’s pavement maintenance management requirement. These projects have required us to inspect more than a billion square feet of airfield pavement. The inspections were completed in accordance with the current editions of FAA Advisory Circular 150/5380-6 and ASTM D 5340. We have completed more than 100 pavement management projects for 29 individual airports and 10 pavement management projects for several state or county systems, including:

In addition to our pavement management projects, in the past 5 years we have completed more than 100 pavement evaluation projects at 22 airports. On many of these projects we used our state-of-the-art pavement evaluation equipment, the Heavy Falling Weight Deflectometer (HWD). Our HWD has a loading capacity that ranges from 6,000 to 55,000 pounds force, the highest of any currently available equipment. The capacity to load the pavement at up to 55,000 pounds force is advantageous because it allows pavement response to be measured under simulated aircraft wheel loads. Our HWD has been recently used to assess the load carrying capacity, estimate remaining life, and identify rehabilitation alternatives for the pavements at several airports.

We conduct pavement-related research for government agencies, and teach pavement-related training courses. Our efforts in these areas have included: Electrical Conduit Trench Failure Investigation and Repair Recommendations -

These are 1-1/2 day workshops that we organize and teach. We have been providing this training yearly for the past 30 years.
