The first mass at Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Catholic Church was celebrated by our founding pastor Fr. Louis T. Gootee and Nativity's 60 charter families in a converted barn on May 16, 1948. The colonial home on the property at 7225 Southeastern Avenue was purchased and was used as a rectory until 1955. At that time, the Sisters of Providence arrived to begin a parish school. After a fire destroyed the original Church in 1965, masses were held in the school cafeteria. Fr. Gootee led a ground-breaking ceremony on December 3, 1967 for a new Church, which was dedicated on May 11, 1969. After seeing use through the years as a rectory, convent and parish offices, the house was torn down to make way for a new Parish Center, which was completed in Spring 2014. In 2019, a major renovation and expansion of the church building was completed, with the dedication held on December 21, 2019.
Today, Nativity Catholic Church is home to more than 900 families. It is the commitment for spiritual growth and service that will continue to lead our parish in a direction of Christian Stewardship.
